Our in person introduction course is a 3 session course for people wishing to join our assistance dog program.

The two sessions on the 20th of August are in person practical dog training sessions. 

The session on the 21st of August is a lunch time theory session which will be held in a cafe environment. This is a no dog session where we will show you through the program resources, talk about how the program works and a Q&A opportunity. 

This session costs £85 per dog. (This is more than the virtual options due to smaller group size). 

Eligibility:

This course is open to disabled people aged 0 - 60 years old who:

  • Are (D)deaf, disabled or neurodivergent.
  • Face significant barriers to safety, independence or community engagement and can evidence this (e.g. through PIP/DLA mid or high care or high mobility award, GP letter etc).
  • Do not hold any potential conflict of interest including are not dog trainers  including voluntarily (or training to be a dog trainer or similar) 

To attend your dog must:

  • Be fully vaccinated (only kennel cough vaccine is optional).
  • Be aged 14 weeks to 6 years old.
  • Receive vet prescribed flea and wormer.
  • Not be raw fed.
  • Have public liability (sometimes call third party) insurance.
  • Not be reactive (this means not bark, growl or lunge at people or other dogs. 
  • Be microchipped in your name & current address. 

Attendees:

To manage distractions & space, only 1 parent/PA/ partner/ support person may attend with the handler(s)*,  except:

  • siblings/children when you have no other child care 
  • where evidence is provided the handler requires 2:1 care in the community. 

*may be multiple disabled people within the household the dog would be trained to support.

Please note: The trainer will be attending with her 9 year old child who is profoundly disabled.
